The time I almost won the lottery..

I am sure that all gamblers have hard luck stories, the times they "could of, would of should of" it kind of goes with the territory. But here is a true story of a time "I should of" won a share of a 112 million pound Euro millions lottery jackpot!

It started when I had the day off work, I used to play a lot of online poker back in the day before I had kids and I was on my way to the betting shop to deposit over the counter so I could play on my online account. I did not have a bank account at the time that let me deposit online, so I had to deposit cash in betting shop to be able to play poker online at home.

I arrived at the betting shop and made my deposit so I could play back home and I had about 20 pounds left over, so I decided to play one of the fixed odds betting terminals or FOBT's as they are known. I ran the 20 up to about 100 and cashed in the slip. At this moment I had a choice, I could go and buy some food for me and my brother who I lived with at the time, buy my lottery tickets (I had been doing the same numbers for a few months) or I could stay and gamble more.

I decided to stay and gamble and I lost all my money except 5 pounds. I decided to leave the shop with the fiver in my pocket and went to the super market. I got to the super market feeling pretty pissed off that I had lost my winnings and now instead of being able to buy some nice food and my lottery tickets I had to chose between tickets or food for me and my brother.

I decided to buy food, a couple of cheap frozen pizza's and what ever else I could afford. I returned home lost my money playing poker and had a shitty pizza for dinner. Later that evening I decided to check the lottery results, I had a ticket from the week before so I could check my numbers. When I logged on and looked at the numbers I saw that I had all 5 main numbers and 1 of the lucky stars! My heart instantly sank and almost fell out of my arse hole, then the feeling reversed and I was almost sick in my mouth.

11,17,30,32,33 + 2,9 I think my numbers were from memory and because the jackpot had rolled over so many times it had to be won that week. No players managed to get all the main numbers and both lucky stars, so the jackpot was moved down a tier to the section that I would of won. 15 players split the jackpot that week so if I would have played I would of been the 16th, I would have won around 7.5 million or so and to this day sometimes when I am going to sleep it enters my head and I think how foolish I was to gamble back the money that I had won and how different my life could have been. But that is hind sight and if I would have won the lottery that day I would not be where I am today with 2 beautiful kids and a girlfriend, ahh fuck who am I kidding I could have been sitting on a tropical islands drinking cocktails and had ten girlfriends it still hurts!!!

The moral of the story is know when to stop! If you keep gambling eventually you will loose and you could miss an even bigger opportunity in life else where! Just like i did.

What a rollercoaster, just think of the mistake you made and learn from it! Take your profit and have a good day with it and don't try to get more when it isn't needed.

Haha, yes it was hard and like I said it still keeps me awake at night even though it was coming up to 20 years ago. Life is about making choices, preferably the right ones lol

 No bro reading your story touches my heart and that's when I wish I could turn back time. But if you had won you wouldn't be in this forum, you would be in your island with lots of liquor and women, that's why things happen. xD
