Just like following horses punters often follow stables and trainers and this is because some people are more in the know than others and produce better, faster, stronger horses. Following a trainer is very easy and most trainers will have multiple horses running on different grounds. Picking winners from a single trainers horses is not easy as there is a lot of tactics used by the trainers to either increase odds or out smart other stables. When you start to delve into the mysterious world of horse trainers you soon find out how convoluted it can be. But if you chose the right trainer and follow them all season then you can certainly turn this into a winning tactic. So the first trainer I think would be wise to follow this year is Willie Mullins.

Willie Mullins Horse Trainer:

William Peter Mullins or Willie as he is known is an Irish horse trainer who was born on 15th Sept 1956, he was a former jockey himself and literally grew up along side horses. He started training horses alongside his father Paddy Mullins in 1988. He soon had his first winner at Aintree in 1983 as an amateur jockey but he is best known for raining a long string of Classic winners.

Willie Mullins Top Wins to Date:

  • 2005 Grand National Winner- (Hedge Hunter)
  • 2011 & 2013 Champion Hurdle Winner- (Hurricane Fly)
  • Six Times Champions Mares Hurdle
  • 2015 Cheltenham Festival he had 8 Winners
  • 2022 10 Winners at Cheltenham
  • He is the leading trainer with the most victories at the Cheltenham festival of all time!

This man is a legend in the sport and with rumors he my be retiring in the not too distant future, this Cheltenham festival he will be looking to break his own record of 10 winners. With 28 races this year in 2023 he is sure to have a horse running in most of them. Backing each horse that runs should be profitable even in races where he has more than one runner. This is the face to look out for at Cheltenham and he will be hoping for a big start to the Classic season.
