The opening game of the 2022 World Cup is very near, we just have to wait until Sunday to see the opening ceremony and first match. As per the tradition the host nation always plays the first match and this Qatar will be the destination.

        

The bookies have Ecuador as the slight favorites to win the match and this is because the home nation will have the crowd and the whole country on their side. It is amazing what a good home support can do for a team and it would not surprise me to see Qatar score first. The bookies have this at 2.50 and I think this is a good bet!

And although opening games a notoriously cagey affairs, I think we will see goals and that both teams will score. Something t take into account though is that Ecuador have only scored 3 goals in their last 8 matches. Some of these have been friendlies but never the less they are not scoring much. Their defensive record is also good, only conceding 4 goals in the last 8 matches. Qatar also have not been scoring much only 5 goals in the last 8 matches, they have conceded 7 in those 8 matches. World Cup nerves might help to open defenses and let in goals but the stats say this is going to be a low scoring affair!

             

I think this match could quite easily finish 0-0 or 1-1 possibly 2-1 either way, a lot of factors effect this opening match and it really depends on how the players approach it. I think Qatar will start fast and tire out in the second half. So my prediction is Qatar to score first and the final result 1-1 or 2-1 either way.
