Verstappen finishes 1st on the 2022 French Grand Prix!!

Max Verstappen won the 2022 French Grand Prix for Red Bull after Ferrari's Charles Leclerc crashed out of the race on Lap 18. The Mercedes duo of Lewis Hamilton and George Russell completed the podium at Paul Ricard.

Carlos Sainz started from the last row and, in a recovery race, was punished by 5 seconds after the team released the Spaniard unsafe in the pits. After paying the penalty in the pits, Sainz finished in P5.

Even without being able to compete with rivals Ferrari and Red Bull, Mercedes had a solid day in Paul Ricard. Lewis Hamilton took his 5th podium in a row, but this time in 2nd position - it was the first time Mercedes had been on the podium in P2 this season, on every other occasion from 2022 the German team was P3.

In the final stages of the GP, Russell and Perez battled it out on the track for the last podium position. But a virtual safety car, after Ghanyu Zhou stopped on the track, changed the situation. Russell stayed well inside the delta and attacked as soon as the green light was shown again. With the maneuver, Russell secured two Mercedes on the podium for the first time in 2022.
