Rafael Nadal withdraws from Wimbledon

The Spanish Rafael Nadal withdrew from the Wimbledon tournament due to an abdominal injury. A seven-millimeter rupture was revealed after the player underwent tests on Thursday, having suffered this injury during his match with American Taylor Fritz in the quarterfinals. 

Nadal's withdrawal, however, meant a "green light" for 40th-ranked ATP Nick Kyrgios that's on his way to the final, the first of his career in Grand Slam tournaments. The injury had already caused problems for the Spaniard last Wednesday, but he still managed to beat Taylor Fritz in the fifth set after 4h21 of play.

Nadal said this at a press conference: "I can't compete in these conditions and the only thing that could happen is to get worse," ; "I can't force it and take the risk of going two or three months without competing at this stage of my career. I am very sad, but this is my decision."
