• The placement of the race

The location of the Japanese Grand Prix near to the bottom of the F1 calendar means it has played host to 12 World Drivers Champion crownings in its 35 runnings.

• The Circuits

The 2 circuits that have hosted Japanese Grand Prix, the Fuji Speedway and the Suzuka Circuit have historically had a bit of a rivalry between them. This is because each circuit is owned by one of Japan's two biggest car companies. Suzuka is owned by Honda and Fuji is owned by Toyota.

There have been 2 Formula 1 Grand Prix that have taken place in the country of Japan that were not named the Japanese Grand Prix. In 1994 and 1995, Japan's TI circuit played host to the only-ever 2 runnings of the Formula 1 Pacific rand Prix being both of them won by Michael Schumacher.
